Music Therapy

The Cancer Center has a board-certified music therapist available to all interested patients and families for private or group sessions. The therapist works to facilitate relaxation, decrease anxiety, reduce stress, elevate mood, enhance pain management, and provide comfort and support, depending on the needs of the patient or family. These goals can be achieved through live music played by the therapist or patients, or via recorded music in conjunction with vibro-acoustic equipment. No prior music experience is necessary to benefit from this complementary service.

In addition, we offer “Music in the Atrium” where light, relaxing piano music is provided for the enjoyment and comfort of patients and visitors every Wednesday morning in the Cancer Center lobby.

“High Tea” is offered the second Monday of each month from 1-3 pm giving patients the opportunity to relax, share experiences, and see familiar faces while listening to the beautiful sounds of a harp.

During both of these programs light refreshments are served by volunteers in the lobby of the Carol G. Simon Cancer Center.
